Jet Magazine March 20,1958
Jet Magazine was first published on November 1st 1951 by John H Johnson. Similar to Johnsons other publishings it focused on culture an d entertainment. Jet chronicled the Civil Rights Movement from its earliest years including the murder of Emmett Till, the Montgomery bus boycott and Martin Luther King Jr. It also featured the popular “Jet Beauty of the Week” centerfold along with fashion and beauty tips, entertainment news, dating advice, and much more. In 2014 the company transitioned to being offered in digital format only. The company was sold and went into bankruptcy in 2019 but the photo archives were given to different foundations to be made available to the public.
