This exhibit focuses on members of the “Divine 9” who helped create a culture of change and resistance that impacted the Civil Rights Movement in America. Through original artifacts, students discover how the involvement of these students led to tangible social change.
This exhibit highlights members and artifacts concentrated on the following organizations. - Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Founded 1906 - Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Founded 1908 - Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Founded 1911 - Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Founded 1911 - Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Founded 1913 - Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Founded 1914 - Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Founded 1920 - Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Founded 1922 - Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Founded 1963 |
The Homage “Black Women in American Culture and
History” exhibit opens the door to the Black experience in the United States from the viewpoint of Black women. Featuring original artifacts and documents ranging from the era of Slavery to the election of Kamala Harris. Highlights of the collection include a slave transport collar, entertainment artifacts, legal papers and original documents drawing attention to key figures such as Shirley Chisholm, Angela Davis, Madam CJ Walker & more. |
The Homage Exhibit opens the door to the the African-American experience
in the United States from the time of Slavery to the election of Barack Obama. Highlights of the collection include slave transport collars, slave bills of sale, entertainment, legal papers documenting the horrors of the slave trade and original documents drawing attention to key figures such as Booker T. Washington, Shirley Chisholm, Frederick Douglas and various artifacts from moments in the civil rights movement. |

The McAdoo family has amassed a collection that represents an in-depth view of African American history from the era of slavery through the post civil rights era.

Virtual Experiences Include: - A 45-minute interactive presentation exploring the Homage Exhibit collection with Collector and Curator Nia McAdoo and Public Historian Nicole Moore - An exhibiting of 12-15 artifacts from the Homage Exhibit collection - Organizations have the option to request specific inventory from the extensive collection of artifacts. An inventory list can be found here. - A 15-minute Q&A session lead by Collector and Curator Nia McAdoo and Public Historian Nicole Moore Non-profit entities and institutions of higher learning: The price for virtual experiences is $2,000 for a one-hour virtual program.
