Colin Powell Signed Autobiography 1995
Colin Luther Powell was born on April 5, 1937 to Jamaican immigrants Luther and Maud Powell. After high school, Powell attended City College of New York where he found his passion in the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC). He went on to earn an MBA at George Washington University and won a White House fellowship in 1972. Powell served a tour of duty in Korea in 1973 and served in Vietnam twice once in 1962 and another in 1968. During his military career, Powell also served as a National Security Advisor and became a four star general. Powell was the first black person to serve as secretary of state and the first black person to serve as the chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff. After retiring, Powell wrote his autobiography, My American Journey, and also became a public speaker, addressing audiences around the country. Powell is the recipient of numerous U.S. and foreign military awards and decorations including the Presidential Medal of Freedom which he was awarded twice.
