Barack Hussein Obama II was born on August 4th, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii. His father was originally from Kenya and worked as a goatherd before earning a scholarship that allowed him to come study in the states at the University of Hawaii. His mother grew up in Texas before moving to Hawaii with her family where she also attended the University of Hawaii. Less than a year after their meeting in a Russian language class, the two married. Obama II graduated from Punahou School, an elite college preparatory academy in Hawaii. He then went on to graduate from Columbia University with a degree in political science. After working as a community organizer in Chicago, Obama II went back to school and graduated magna cum laude in 1991 from Harvard University’s law school. After receiving his law degree Obama moved to Chicago and became active in the democratic party. In 2004 he was elected to the U.S senate to represent Illinois and in 2008 he beat Senator John McCain and became president of the United States.
