Ted Ellis - “Wade in the Water”
Ted Eillis
Wade in the Water II
This work depicts a family gathering on a bridge over water to witness a ceremony. The piece is signed in plate, and by hand to the lower right corner just beneath the image, and is number 74 in an edition of 3506.
Ted Ellis was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. Although he displayed interest and talent in the arts at an early age, Ellis earned a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and worked as an environmental chemist. He was also commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army. While working, however, Ellis continued as a self-taught artist out of a studio in his garage until pursuing art full time in 1996. African American culture plays a central role in Ellis’ art which fuses Folk art and Impressionism. Art by Ellis has been commissioned by major companies and organizations including Walt DIsney Studios, Coca Cola and Philip Morris. Some of his most noted collectors include Spike Lee, Brad Pitt and Roland Martin. Ellis has lived in Louisiana and California but currently resides in Texas.
Notes and sources: I didn’t realize you already started this one until I had already looked some stuff up and I saw that what you already had was more about what the image was so I thought you may still like to have a write up about the author as well.
